Stereo 974 97.4 FM Melbourne is a community radio station that began broadcasting in 1978. It is one of Melbourne’s less popular radio stations but it does serve a multicultural segment of the population. Stereo947 has a number of news segments if foreign languages to service the small portion of Melbourne that speaks a different language. This station also has a world news segment which is what keeps most English speaking people tuning in despite the lack of popularity. 6 years ago Stereo 974 97.4 FM underwent difficulties when a change of ownership left it without a location to broadcast from. They took two years to find a new location and since they once again began broadcasting they have gained a reputation for up to date local news.
