3AW Radio is a news and talk station that was formed on the 22nd of February in 1932. Since its creation 3AW has been the top rating station in Melbourne, Australia. This popularity is largely due to it’s strangle hold on the AFL coverage. Recently however its rivals have begun to break this hold and while 3AW is still the top rating station it is now forced to struggle for this position.
The drive segment with Derryn Hinch is another major reason for 3AW’s popularity. Hinch is one of the best known radio presenters in the country; having first come into the public eye when reporting on the Melbourne gangland wars. The talkback breakfast radio show is also very well know in the city and its increasing popularity is currently responsible for 3AW remaining as the most popular station.
