The ABC (Australian Broad Cast) Gold Coast FM radio station is well known by the people along the Gold Coast for bringing the best in news, current affairs, music, and anything that really matters to the people. The radio station started out as an AM station providing music for those who were surfers. The station soon changed by 1988 as one of the largest online FM radio stations for the multitude of people who live along the Gold Coast of Australia.
Bob Hailstone the first General Manager had the idea of marketing to young people who were into the rock of the era. The station also provided live concerts during the day. Music aired by such groups as Guns ‘n’ Roses and Midnight Oil help to shoot the ratings up making ABC Gold Coast FM top station in the area. The first manager was the well- known Bill Gates famous for being a motor racing/water skiing legend. The official opening of the ABC Gold Coast took place at their Mermaid Beach station in 1988.
The ABC Gold Coast FM station has been a success since then and remains one of the leading online radio stations in Australia today.
